You will join our Environment and Health department

As our new Environmental Consultant, you will be part of our interdisciplinary Overland Park, KS team. You will work with all levels of expertise from entry level team members to members with decades of experience, many of whom are subject matter experts in their fields. Consultants and Managers are part of a continual learning environment where they learn through coaching, mentoring and on-the-job tasks. The duties of the position include:

  • Provide technical assistance on environmental compliance, air quality, site investigation and remediation, litigation support, and due diligence transaction projects.
  • Prepare plans, permits, and reports for hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, NPDES, and wastewater programs.
  • Perform environmental compliance assessments and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct air quality analyses, prepare emission inventory reports, and evaluate air pollution control technologies.
  • Perform Phase I environmental site assessments to support property transfer transactions.
  • Conduct field work, including sampling, ecological field studies, drilling, well installation, remedial pilot tests, construction oversight, and remedial system operation and maintenance.
  • Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance, as needed.
  • Compile and evaluate data and assist in report preparation.
  • Perform multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.

  • BS/MS in a relevant science discipline (geology, environmental science) or a relevant engineering discipline (chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical or related)
  • Recent graduate to 2 years of relevant environmental experience or professional internships
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus
  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • HAZWOPER and/or EIT certifications a plus
  • Local candidates preferred
  • Can work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Desire to learn and grow in the environmental consulting field
  • Candidates must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time on average during the year and possess a valid driver’s license. Travel may include overnight stay and may be out of state.
  • A general familiarity with rules and regulations of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) is a plus but is not required.  Additionally, an understanding of the Phase I ESA requirements and the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) due diligence process is a plus but is not required. 
  • The physical requirements of this position may include the need for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. In certain situations this position may expose the candidate to extremes in weather (hot/cold); high noise levels, to hazards such as a proximity to moving machine parts and moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to chemicals. Employees may be required to take specific training and to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on some occasions.

As our new Environmental Engineering Consultant, you will be part of a dynamic team providing state-of-the-art scientific, technical, and strategic risk management assistance to an international client base. 

Typical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collection and management of environmental samples using industry-standard techniques.
  • Compiling and evaluating sampling data to characterize chemicals in environmental media. 
  • Oversight of field projects managing subcontractors.
  • Providing technical assistance in development of project deliverables and on-site implementation of investigation and remediation projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation and editing of technical reports.
  • Interactions with clients, regulatory agencies, and the public.

  • Candidates must have a B.A./B.S. degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science) from an accredited institution and have 2-5 years of experience in a related field.
  • OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) certified with current 8-hour annual refresher training
  • Candidates must be willing to travel up to 50% average over the year and possess a valid driver’s license. Travel may include overnight stay and may be out of state. Travel duration may range from 1-10 days, depending upon the specific requirements of each project. Work hours may vary and will include frequent early morning starts ranging from 5 am to 7 am.
  • The physical requirements of this position may include the need for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. DESCRIPTION:
Become a Stormwater Engineer Intern with the City of Olathe Public Works Department.  The Engineering Section is actively seeking a highly motivated college student who is currently pursuing a degree in Engineering to assist the professional staff in the Stormwater section. The Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to Investigate, collect and manage data in support of the Water Quality Program and perform various duties as directed by the appointed supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the Water Quality Program Coordinator in:

  • BMP Inspections (Stormwater Basin inspection)
  • Residential Erosion/Sediment Control Inspections/enforcement
  • Stormwater/Land Disturbance Permit Inspections
  • Illicit Discharge Investigations
  • Collaborate with Stormwater Team
  • Perform various duties within the office or in the field as directed by supervisor.
  • This position works Indoors and outdoors.

Additional experience in surveying, stormwater BMPs, and GIS preferred.  Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Education:  College student pursuing an engineering degree is required, civil preferred.

Coordinating Wildlife Biologist

Overview & Job Duties: 
The incumbent will work in a joint capacity with Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture partners USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and other State and Federal partners to promote, accelerate enrollment, coordinate and implement the conservation provisions of the Federal Farm Bill and other wildlife related conservation programs such as the Grassland Restoration Incentive Program (GRIP). Activities will include program promotion (workshops and one on one meetings), contract coordination, conservation planning, conservation plan modification, site assessment, and reporting.  In addition, the incumbent will provide conservation technical guidance, including wildlife habitat enhancement techniques, and conservation program delivery, to private landowners and public organizations within partner identified priority areas, as appropriate and will collaborate with partner project managers to increase involvement in GRIP.  

Other duties will include: 1) Work with local chapters of Quail Forever (QF) and other local partners to increase habitat management efforts and participate in regional and statewide habitat meetings; 2) Assist or coordinate activities and projects with other QF, NRCS, TPWD or OPJV staff; 3) Provide leadership and support for outreach activities including direct collaboration with project managers, and through landowner field events, inter-agency partnership training meetings, and other communication efforts.  

This position will be an employee of, and supervised by Pheasants Forever, Inc. & Quail Forever, with daily instruction and leadership provided by QF, NRCS and OPJV.  Hired individuals will work largely within the focus areas of the OPJV to achieve the objectives of the partnership. This position will be located within the Floresville or LaGrange USDA Service Center.

Desired Knowledge. Skills and Abilities:
•    Ability to be part of multiple teams and, where appropriate, provide coordination and leadership working with a diverse set of partner organizations and individual landowners to achieve conservation objectives at multiple scales (individual land parcel to state level) and through the work of others.
•    Knowledge of wildlife ecology, prescribed fire, and grassland, wetland, and early succession habitat management.
•    Ability to convey the use of various habitat management tools in the development of management plans. 
•    Knowledge of conservation and wildlife habitat programs provided by federal (i.e. Farm Bill, US Fish and Wildlife Service), state, & local entities.  In addition, knowledge of how these programs are implemented in an agricultural landscape is desired. 
•    Knowledge of or practical experience with agricultural systems, farming and ranching.
•    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with landowners, partner agencies and colleagues. 
•    Ability to work independently with little supervision and with diverse clientele.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication.
•    Strong organizational skills.
•    Demonstrated leadership abilities with a high degree of self-motivation.
•    Proficiency with ArcGIS and/or USDA Toolkit.
•    Conflict resolution skills.
•    Valid driver’s license required; some use of personal vehicle may be required (mileage reimbursement provided).
•    Must be able to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance.

Education and Experience Preferred: A minimum requirement for this position is a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management or closely related natural resources field and three years of relevant experience. Wildlife Society Certification and graduate work will also be considered. Proven experience working with USDA Farm Bill programs (i.e. EQIP, CSP, ACEP, CRP and CREP) is preferred.
